My Portal
With My Portal, you can manage all aspects of your phone system with MyFone®. Once you’ve logged into the portal and connected to your phone service, you’ll find a number of options at the top of the screen to configure, as well as a dashboard in the center of the screen where you can review useful stats about your phone system.
You can see a summary of recent calls, with interesting data including the person who has answered the most calls, the number that has been most dialled. By default this displays for the last 7 days, but you can choose time periods up to 2 months if you wish.
At the top of the screen you’ll see a number of tabs that you can navigate through to configure every aspect of your phone system, which will be covered in detail throughout this part of our documentation.
What is an extension?
An extension is essentially any phone that you wish to connect to your phone system. It might be a physical phone on your desk, a piece of software you run on your computer, or a mobile application. You can think of an extension as the internet-based equivalent of a traditional phone line.
Once you’ve set up an extension, you’ll be presented with a username and password that you can add to your device to connect it to your MyFone® phone system.
How to set up a new extension
To set up a new extension you will need to log into the MyFone® Portal.
Once you’ve logged into your account, head to the Extensions page via the link at the top of the screen, then click the Create a new extension button on the right hand side of the page.
New extensions
Enter an extension number and name, followed by a username. The username must be lowercase letters and numbers only, with no spaces. Leave the password blank for us to generate a secure one for you, unless you wish to enter your own password.
Next, choose an Outbound caller ID if you wish to allow the extension to make outbound calls. The outbound caller ID can either be a number that you’ve previously purchased, or you can click the button to buy a new number on the right hand side.
Finally, disable the Call recording option unless you wish to record all outgoing calls made from the extension, then click Save to finish.
Connecting to your new extension
Once you’ve saved your new extension, you’ll need to take a note of the username, password and hostname. The details are required to add to your device to connect to it.
How to use a landline number with WhatsApp
WhatsApp is primarily designed for use with mobile phone numbers, but you can still use a landline number with WhatsApp through the following steps:
Step 1: Check Compatibility
- Ensure that your landline number is capable of receiving SMS or voice calls since WhatsApp requires verification through a code sent via SMS or a voice call.
Step 2: Download WhatsApp
- If you haven’t already, download the WhatsApp app from your device’s app store (Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iOS).
Step 3: Installation and Initial Setup
- Install WhatsApp and open the app.
- Accept the terms of service and privacy policy.
- Enter your landline number in the provided field.
Step 4: Verification
- WhatsApp will try to send an SMS verification code to your landline number, but since landlines cannot receive SMS, select the “Call Me” option.
- You will receive a voice call with a verification code. Note down this code.
Step 5: Enter the Verification Code
- Enter the verification code you received via the call in the WhatsApp app.
Step 6: Account Setup
- Set up your WhatsApp profile by adding a profile picture and your name.
Step 7: Start Using WhatsApp with Your Landline Number
- Once verified, you can start using WhatsApp with your landline number.
- You can send and receive messages, make voice and video calls, and enjoy all other WhatsApp features.
Important Notes:
- Remember that WhatsApp on a landline will still require an internet connection to work, just like on a mobile phone.
- WhatsApp Business is another option if you want to use WhatsApp for business purposes with a landline number. It offers additional business features.
That’s it! You’ve successfully set up WhatsApp with your landline number and can now enjoy its features on your device. Keep in mind that using a landline number with WhatsApp may have limitations compared to using a mobile number, but it can still be a useful communication tool.
